Cultures have specifics, as well as specifics in other people's minds - there's no getting away from that. It all comes together to create an identity. And these strike me as gentle, affectionate and very well-executed explorations of that. Hardly offensive to anyone who hasn't been totally twisted. I mean look at London (where i am from) - a miserable gray world of rain, tea and football! Of COURSE London or England isn't all like that, but only an idiot would take this literally and start getting snooty about it. In a way it does capture something inherently British or perceived-British with an admirable simplicity and effect. And why not?! I wouldn't mind having that on the wall of my London apartment, just to make me smile sometimes and even remind me why i love the place. I think these are great. Thanks Melinda for the artist's name.
